Grundy County is located in the southern part of the state of Tennessee, in the United States of America. Established on January 29, 1844, the county is named after Felix Grundy, a prominent lawyer and U.S. senator from Tennessee. Spreading across an area of 361 square miles, Grundy County comprises a unique combination of scenic landscapes, rich history, and cultural heritage.

The early settlers of this region were attracted by its abundant natural resources which led to the establishment of thriving communities. The Stone Door, located in the Savage Gulf State Natural Area, stands witness to the Native American hunting trails and shelters that were used before European settlement.

The Civil War era saw the county divided, as some of its residents supported the Union while others sympathized with the Confederacy. Slave-owning was rare, and after the Emancipation Proclamation, many African Americans relocated to Grundy County, giving rise to a more diverse population.

Notable for its natural beauty, Grundy County has several state parks, such as the South Cumberland State Park, that offer various outdoor recreational opportunities.
