Hamblen County is located in northeast Tennessee and was established on June 8, 1870, following a legislative act by the state of Tennessee. The county was named in honor of Dr. Hezekiah Hamblen, an early settler in the region. It encompasses a total area of 176 square miles and includes valuable agricultural, industrial, and commercial resources. The county seat of Hamblen County is Morristown, a growing city that serves as a vital and vibrant regional commercial hub.

Before the establishment of Hamblen County, the Cherokee Nation inhabited the area until 1785, when the Treaty of Dumplin Creek ceded the land to the new settlers. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, people of predominantly Scots-Irish and English descent settled the area and began farming and trading.

During the Civil War, the region experienced divided loyalties, with Confederate and Union forces both drawing support from the local population. The Battle of Morristown, a minor but important skirmish, took place within the county borders on October 28, 1864.

Throughout the latter part of the 19th century and into the 20th century, Hamblen County transformed from a predominantly agrarian society to an industrialized economy. The development of the Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia Railroad, as well as the establishment of manufacturing facilities and other industries, played a significant role in the county's growth.

A fun fact about this region is that Morristown was home to the famous "Crockett Tavern," a replica of the original 1790s establishment built by John Crockett, the father of legendary frontiersman Davy Crockett. The replica, a museum now, offers a glimpse into life on the frontier during the early days of Tennessee's settlement.
