Johnson County is located in the northeastern part of Tennessee, a state in the southeastern region of the United States. Established in 1836, the county was named in honor of Thomas Johnson, an early settler and one of the first officials of the county. It is nestled in the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains and is most known for its lush landscapes, mountainous terrain, and clear waterways.

The county seat and largest city in Johnson County is Mountain City. The area was first settled by early pioneers who came to the area in search of fertile land for farming and lumbering opportunities in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In the 20th century, Johnson County remained mostly rural, with its economy focused on agriculture, lumber, and manufacturing.

One fun fact about Johnson County is that it is home to the famous Doe Mountain Recreation Area. This 8,600-acre outdoor playground features over 50 miles of multi-use trails, including hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, as well as off-highway vehicles (OHV) that offer scenic views of the Appalachian Mountains.
