Tipton County is a county located in the western part of the state of Tennessee, USA. It was established in 1823 and was named after Jacob Tipton, who was a member of the territorial legislature. The county's history is closely tied to the development of the region's agriculture and industry.

The area that is now Tipton County was once inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Chickasaw and the Choctaw. In the 19th century, European-American settlers began to arrive in the area, drawn by the opportunities for farming and cotton production.

Tipton County is near the Alex Haley Museum and Interpretive Center. Alex Haley was a famous author and genealogist who is best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning book "Roots: The Saga of an American Family." Haley was born in Tipton County in 1921, and the museum features exhibits and displays that showcase his life and work, as well as the history of the region. Visitors can also take guided tours of Haley's childhood home and learn about the impact that he had on American culture and society.
