.Trousdale County, located in the great state of Tennessee, boasts a rich historical background. Established on January 11, 1870, the county's creation resulted from the consolidation of portions of Macon, Smith, Sumner, and Wilson counties. Named in honor of William Trousdale, a renowned politician, military officer, and governor of Tennessee (1849-1851), the county's county seat, Hartsville, also claims historical significance as it was founded in 1797.
A region steeped in history, Trousdale County witnessed significant moments during the American Civil War. The Battle of Hartsville, which took place on December 7, 1862, resulted in a Confederate victory led by General John Hunt Morgan. After the war, the Reconstruction Era saw significant growth and development in the area.
An interesting fun fact about Trousdale County is that it is the smallest county in Tennessee in terms of both land area and population. Covering an area of just 117 square miles, its small size has not hindered the development of a close-knit community with strong historical roots.
