Unicoi County, located in the great state of Tennessee, was established on March 23, 1875. It was created from portions of Washington and Carter counties and is nestled in the Appalachian Mountains in the northeastern part of the state. The county's name is derived from an Indian word "Unaka," which means white or fog-draped.

Unicoi County is known for its scenic beauty, including mountains, valleys, and rivers. It has a rich cultural and historical heritage, with early settlements dating back to the late 18th century. The county was initially populated by Native American tribes, specifically the Cherokee Indians. European settlers, predominantly Scotch-Irish, started arriving in the area in the late 1700s, attracted to the fertile land and lush forests that offered ample resources for agricultural development.

During the Civil War, the area played a role in helping the Confederates, although the region was somewhat divided in its loyalties. The county's present-day economy is largely based on manufacturing, agriculture, and tourism.

A fun fact about Unicoi County is that it is home to a portion of the famous Appalachian Trail, a long-distance hiking trail extending over 2,000 miles from Georgia to Maine. This trail attracts thousands of hikers and outdoor enthusiasts each year, showcasing the breathtaking landscape of this region of the United States.
