Aransas County is located on the Gulf Coast in the great state of Texas. The county was officially established on June 27, 1871, and is named after the Rio Nuestra Senora de Aranzazu, a Spanish outpost in early Texas. The county seat, Rockport, is known for its rich history, boasting a diverse cultural background from its early settlers, primarily Anglo-American and Mexican families, German immigrants, and the native Karankawa tribe.

Aransas County's initial economic activity centered around cattle-ranching, agriculture, and maritime trade. The region's agricultural industry grew with cotton manufacturing in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, while its maritime trade bloomed from the construction of a railroad in 1888 connecting Rockport to nearby towns. Fishing, seafood, and coastal shipping have been vital to the county's economy.

Modern-day Aransas County is home to several notable landmarks such as the Fulton Mansion State Historic Site, built-in 1877 for George Ware Fulton and his family, a key landmark of Second Empire architecture, and the Texas Maritime Museum, which details the coastal history of Texas.
