.Bexar County is a richly historic county located in the south-central region of the great state of Texas. Established in 1731 by Spanish settlers, the county was once part of the Spanish colony of New Spain before Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821. The area was later incorporated into Texas, which became a part of the United States after the Texas Revolution in 1836.
Bexar County is home to the city of San Antonio, the seventh most populous city in the United States, and the second most populous city in the state of Texas. San Antonio served a vital role in the fight for Texas independence from Mexico. The famous Battle of the Alamo took place here in 1836, where a small group of Texan defenders, including celebrated figures like Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie, fought against Mexican General Santa Anna's forces. Although the Texans were ultimately defeated in this battle, the rallying cry "Remember the Alamo!" became a symbol of resistance and inspiration for the successful Texas Revolution.
