Blanco County, located in the heart of Texas Hill Country, was officially formed on February 12, 1858. The county was named after the Blanco River, which was a significant water source for the region. Spain initially laid claim to the area in the 17th century; however, it wasn't until the 19th century when Anglo-American settlers started moving into the region.

Before the arrival of European settlers, various Native American tribes, including the Tonkawa, Comanche, and Apache, inhabited the land. In the early 1800s, the area saw a period of rapid colonization, with German-speaking settlers, particularly the Wends, moving into the region. They established settlements like Hohenwalde (now known as Twin Sisters) and Klein-Germanien, which later became the town of Blanco in 1853.

The agriculture and ranching industries became the backbone of Blanco County's economy during its early years, and the discovery of oil in 1946 also contributed significantly to the area's development. Some towns, like Johnson City, were named after prominent figures, such as James Polk Johnson, a nephew of Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United States.

A fun fact about Blanco County is that it is home to Real Ale Brewing Company in Blanco, which produces award-winning craft beers and attracts beer enthusiasts from all over the country. Additionally, the county boasts several beautiful natural features like the Blanco State Park and the Pedernales Falls State Park, drawing nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts to the area.
