Brooks County, located in the great state of Texas, was officially established on March 11, 1911. The county was named after James Abijah Brooks, a Texas Ranger and legislator. The county seat, Falfurrias, was founded by Edward C. Lasater, a prominent South Texas rancher and developer, in 1893. It is situated in the southern part of Texas and is part of the Rio Grande Valley.

Brooks County played a significant role in the ranching and agricultural industries, thanks to its fertile land and ideal climate. Cattle ranching was predominant in the region, and by 1900, several ranches were present, including the famous Falfurrias Ranch.

During the early 20th century, the demand for agricultural produce rapidly grew, and Brooks County capitalized on this trend, opening up thousands of acres of land for farming. This progress was further spurred by the arrival of the St. Louis, Brownsville, and Mexico Railway, which connected the county to major markets.

During the 1930s, oil was discovered in the county, giving a boost to the local economy. Brooks County experienced a period of growth between the 1930s and 1960s, with an increase in population and infrastructure development.

Fun fact: Brooks County is recognized as the "Butter Capital of the World," thanks to the high-quality Jersey cows that Edward Lasater introduced in the region. These cows were known for their rich, creamy milk, which led to the development of Falfurrias Creamery in 1909. This creamery became famous for its butter and contributed significantly to the county's reputation and its dairy industry.
