Burnet County, located in the great state of Texas, was established on February 5, 1852, named in honor of David Gouverneur Burnet, the first president of the Republic of Texas. Situated in the Hill Country region, it covers an area of about 1,021 square miles. The county seat is the city of Burnet, and other key cities in the county include Marble Falls, Granite Shoals, and Bertram.

Before European settlers arrived in the 19th century, the region was initially inhabited by the Tonkawa, Comanche, and the Lipan Apache tribes. Settlers began arriving in the 1840s, and by the 1850s, Burnet County was established as a separate entity from the Bell and Travis counties.

Burnet County experienced significant growth in the 1880s, largely due to the arrival of the Austin & Northwestern Railroad. The completion of the railroad facilitated easier transportation and access to major cities like Austin, fostering economic development, and encouraging the growth of the region's agricultural and mineral resources. Throughout the early 1900s, the county saw advancements in transportation infrastructure with the construction of major highways.

In the 1950s, Burnet County experienced another surge in population as the construction of two major reservoirs, Lake Buchanan and Lake Lyndon B. Johnson, transformed the area into a popular destination for recreation and retirement living.

Fun Fact: The impressive Longhorn Cavern State Park, located in Burnet County, features an extensive system of limestone caverns that not only bear a rich geological history but also have a colorful past that includes the legendary outlaw Sam Bass using the caves as a hideout in the 19th century.
