Cass County, located in the northeastern part of the great state of Texas, was originally founded in 1846. Named after the US Senator Lewis Cass, the county has a rich history that can be traced back to the days of the Caddo Indian tribe who inhabited the area prior to European settlement.

The area that now makes up Cass County was initially explored by Spanish and French explorers in the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1820, the land was granted to the Mexican government, which then gave land grants to settlers. Anglo-American settlement began in the early 1830s, and by the time Texas gained its independence in 1836, the area had attracted many pioneers who sought farming and trade opportunities.

Cass County played a key role during the Civil War, being in favor of secession and having a sizeable population of slaveholders. After the war, the county underwent a period of economic expansion, with the growth of the timber and railroad industries, and by the 20th century, it had developed into a predominantly agricultural region.

Today, Cass County retains its historical significance and continues to thrive as a rural community with a mix of agriculture, manufacturing, and service-based industries. It is known for the beauty of its natural landscapes, including forests, lakes, and rolling hills.

Fun fact: Cass County houses the historic Atlanta State Park, which is a popular tourist destination for people interested in outdoor activities such as hiking, birdwatching, and fishing. The park features more than four miles of trails and provides a scenic and tranquil retreat for both residents and visitors.
