Collingsworth County is located in the Panhandle region of the great state of Texas, in the United States of America. The county was created in 1876 and organized in 1890. It was named after James Collinsworth, one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence and the first Chief Justice of the Republic of Texas, although his name was misspelled during the creation of the county, which led to the county's current name.

The area of Collingsworth County has been inhabited for nearly 12,000 years, with several prehistoric sites discovered in the area. Native American tribes such as the Comanche, Kiowa, and Apache were some of the earliest inhabitants of the region. With the coming of European explorers, like the Spanish, the region witnessed new changes, and eventually, settlers began to establish homes and farms in the area.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the county saw significant growth, particularly with the arrival of the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway, which created the town of Wellington, the county seat, in 1888. Agriculture, particularly ranching and farming, has played a significant role in the economy of Collingsworth County throughout its history.

A fun fact about Collingsworth County is that it is home to the Collingsworth County Museum, which is housed in the former Wellington State Bank building, a fascinating example of Beaux-Arts architecture built in 1914.
