Crockett County, located in the great state of Texas, was officially established on January 22, 1875, and named in honor of the legendary frontiersman and Alamo hero, Davy Crockett. The county is situated within the Edwards Plateau region in West Texas and covers an area of approximately 2,807 square miles. The county seat is Ozona, which is often referred to as the "Biggest Little Town in the World."

Prior to European colonization, Native American tribes such as the Apache, Comanche, and Kiowa inhabited the area. The first Europeans to explore the region were the Spanish in the 16th and 17th centuries. Later, in the 19th century, Anglo-American settlements began to sprout along with the establishment of cattle ranches, thanks to the advent of railroads.

One of the early settlers, Charles Goodnight, drove his cattle through the county on the way to New Mexico territory. The development of the region accelerated in the early 20th century with significant infrastructure projects, including the construction of roads and the expansion of the railway network.

Crockett County is known for its ranching, agriculture, and oil and gas production industries. It is part of the fringes of the Permian Basin, which holds one of the largest oil reserves in the United States.

A fun fact about Crockett County is that Ozona, the county seat, is home to the Crockett County Museum, which houses an extensive collection of regional artifacts, historical documents, and exhibits related to the fascinating history of the county and the surrounding areas. Visitors can learn about the early pioneers, ranchers, and oilmen who made significant impacts on the development of this region of the USA.
