Delta County is a small, rural county located in the northeastern part of the great state of Texas. It was officially formed on July 29, 1870, and named after its triangular shape, which closely resembles the Greek letter Delta. The county seat is Cooper, which is also the largest city in the county.

The region that is now Delta County was originally inhabited by several Native American tribes, including the Caddo and Choctaw. European settlement began in the early 19th century, with French traders reported to have been in the area in 1830. In 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico and, following a brief period as an independent Republic of Texas, it joined the United States in 1845.

Delta County saw growth during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, primarily as an agricultural community. The county produced crops such as cotton, corn, and wheat, as well as raising cattle and hogs. At this time, the county also saw some growth in the timber and railroad industries. However, the population began to decline in the 20th century due to mechanization in farming practices and more people moving to urban areas in search of jobs.

Today, Delta County remains predominantly rural, with agriculture still playing a significant role in the local economy. Residents often participate in events such as the annual Chiggerfest in Cooper, which celebrates the region's history and culture.
