Fannin County, located in the great state of Texas, was founded in 1837 and named in honor of Colonel James W. Fannin, a martyr of the Texas Revolution. The county covers an area of approximately 899 square miles in the northeastern part of the state. The county seat is Bonham, which was initially named Bois D'Arc and later renamed in honor of James Butler Bonham, a defender of the Alamo.

The early settlers in Fannin County were mainly Anglo-Americans attracted by the fertile land suitable for cotton farming. The region saw a rapid increase in population during the 1850s due to the expansion of railroads, increased agricultural activity, and an influx of European immigrants. During the Civil War, Fannin County residents primarily supported the Confederacy, and the region subsequently faced economic devastation following the war's end.

Throughout the 20th century, the county diversified its economy by investing in manufacturing, oil and gas production, and agribusiness. Additionally, the agricultural profile of the region shifted toward dairy, beef cattle, and poultry.

One fun fact about Fannin County is that it houses the Sam Rayburn House Museum, the home of famous Texan Sam Rayburn, who was the longest-serving Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, holding the position for an impressive total of 17 years. The museum showcases the life and career of this influential political figure while offering a glimpse into the county's rich history.
