Garza County is located in the western part of the state of Texas, within the United States. The history of Garza County can be traced back to the early Native American populations who inhabited the area, such as the Comanche, Apache, and Lipan Apache tribes. Spanish explorers, including Francisco Vazquez de Coronado, traversed the area in the 16th-century during their expeditions.

The formation of Garza County began in the late 19th-century when settlements started to appear in the region. The county was officially established on April 9, 1907, from Bexar County, and named in honor of Jose Antonio de la Garza, a prominent figure in Mexican Texas. The county seat, Post, was founded in 1907 by Charles William Post, an American businessman who founded the Postum Cereal Company and later, the town itself.

The establishment of ranching and agricultural activities, alongside the discovery of oil fields in the early 1900s, greatly contributed to the county's growth and development. The construction of railroads facilitated transportation and communication within the area and attracted more settlers.

A fun fact about Garza County is that it's home to the Post-Garza County Museum, which indicates the county's rich history and showcases the evolution of life in the region, from Native American settlements to cowboys and ranching. The museum is located in the historic Algerita Hotel, which was built in 1911 by the town's founder, Charles William Post, as a temporary residence for families while their homes were being constructed.
