Henderson County, located in the eastern part of the great state of Texas, was officially founded in 1846. The county is named in honor of James Pinckney Henderson, who was the first Attorney General of the Republic of Texas, and later served as the Governor, U.S. Senator, and Minister to France and the United Kingdom.

The area that is now Henderson County was originally inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Caddo Indians. Following the annexation of Texas to the United States in 1845, European-American settlers began to migrate to the region. Agriculture formed the backbone of the region's economy, with cotton farming becoming particularly prominent.

During the American Civil War, Henderson County provided its share of soldiers to the Confederate cause. After the war, the region continued to experience steady growth. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it became an important transportation hub, with several railroads passing through the area.

Henderson County is known for its beautiful natural attractions such as the Purtis Creek State Park and Cedar Creek Reservoir. The region is also home to the East Texas Arboretum and Botanical Society, a 100-acre sanctuary with several walking trails and gardens.
