It is situated in the north-central part of the state and has its county seat in Granbury, which is also the region's largest city. The county covers an area of approximately 437 square miles and is graced with a beautiful landscape that includes the Brazos River and Lake Granbury.

Initially, Hood County was inhabited by Native American tribes, particularly the Comanche and Kiowa.
