Jack County is located in the north-central region of the great state of Texas. Established in 1856, this county was named in honor of brothers William Houston Jack and Patrick Churchill Jack, who were both Texas pioneers and prominent politicians. The county covers an area of around 920 square miles and has its county seat in Jacksboro, which is also its largest city.

Before the establishment of Jack County, the area was inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Comanche and Kiowa. In the mid-19th century, European settlers began to arrive, attracted by the fertile land and opportunities for farming and ranching. The Texas Legislature formed Jack County from Cooke County on August 27, 1856.

With the arrival of the railway in the late 1800s, the county experienced growth in its agricultural and livestock industries, as well as the establishment of new towns along the tracks, such as Bryson and Antelope. The economy of Jack County has primarily relied on agriculture, oil production, and limestone mining.

A fun fact about Jack County is that the area is home to the Jack County Museum, housed in the National Bank Building, which was built in 1886. The museum showcases local history, artifacts, and memorabilia that represent the unique heritage of the county, offering an interesting insight into the lives of those who lived and worked there over the past centuries.
