Jackson County, situated in the great state of Texas, has a rich historical background. Established in 1835, this county was named in honor of U.S. President Andrew Jackson. It is located within the Texas Gulf Coast region, covering an area of 857 square miles.

Before the arrival of European settlers, the region was inhabited by the Karankawa and Coahuiltecan Native American tribes. The 1687 La Salle expedition, led by French explorer Rene-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, was the first recorded encounter between Europeans and the indigenous people of the area. However, it wasn't until the early 19th century that Anglo-American settlers started to establish permanent settlements within the county.

Jackson County played a significant role in the Texas Revolution, with a number of its residents joining the fight for independence in the early 1830s. The county was officially organized in 1837, a year after Texas gained its independence from Mexico. The town of Texana, which served as the county seat until 1883, was a thriving port town along the Navidad River until the railroad bypassed it in favor of Edna, the current county seat.

Throughout the years, Jackson County has evolved and flourished as an agricultural and industrial center. Its economy has been driven by various industries, including cotton farming, cattle ranching, and petroleum production, which began with the discovery of oil in 1934 at Louetta Field.

Fun fact: The Jackson County Cameron "Ghost Lights" are a local phenomenon that has caught the attention of many visitors and residents. According to local lore, mysterious lights can be seen along the railroad tracks near the town of Louise, leading some to speculate about paranormal explanations.
