Jim Hogg County, located in the southern part of Texas, was created in 1913 and named after James Stephen Hogg, a prominent lawyer, and the 21st governor of Texas. The county seat is Hebbronville, which is also the largest community in the area. Before the establishment of the county, the region was occupied predominantly by Native American tribes, such as Lipan Apaches and Coahuiltecan.

The arrival of Spanish explorers and settlers began in the 17th and 18th centuries, and the region became a part of the land grant system of Spanish colonial Texas. During the 19th century and early 20th century, ranching was a significant part of the local economy, along with farming and trade.

Oil exploration and production began in the mid-20th century, adding to the development of the county. Today, Jim Hogg County remains largely rural, and its economy is driven predominantly by agriculture, ranching, and the oil and gas industry.
