Kimble County is located at the heart of the great state of Texas. Established in 1858 and organized in 1876, it was named in honor of George C. Kimble, a heroic figure who fought and died at the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. The county seat, Junction, was named for its location at the confluence of the North and South Llano Rivers.

The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Comanche, Kiowa, and Lipan Apache. The first known European settlers arrived in the mid-1800s and were primarily of German, Belgian, and American origin. Ranching and agriculture played a significant role in the early economy, and sheep and goat farming continue to be important industries in the county today.

Fun Fact: Kimble County is home to the South Llano River State Park, which spans over 2,600 acres and is located four miles south of the city of Junction. The park offers a variety of recreational activities such as camping, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, birdwatching, and stargazing. Additionally, South Llano River State Park is recognized as a premier birdwatching destination, hosting around 250 species of birds throughout the year.
