Lamb County is located in the southern high plains region of Texas, also known as the Llano Estacado. The county was created on August 21, 1876, but it wasn't officially organized until April 9, 1908. The county seat of Lamb County is Littlefield, named after George Washington Littlefield, a rancher, banker, and major benefactor of the University of Texas.

The area was initially inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Apache and Comanche. During the mid-19th century, the region was mostly used for cattle ranches, with some of the most famous ranches being the XIT, Spade, and Yellow House. The railroad expansion in the early 20th century led to an increase in population and facilitated agricultural development. Cotton became the primary crop, boosting the economy.

One fun fact about Lamb County is that it is home to the Hulon B. Allen House in Littlefield, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house, constructed in 1936, is a notable example of Pueblo Revival architecture, and it stands as a reminder of the rich history and diverse architectural styles found in this Texan region.
