Llano County, located in the Hill Country region of the great state of Texas, was officially established in 1856 from parts of Bexar and Gillespie counties. Nestled in Central Texas, Llano County covers an area of approximately 966 square miles. The county seat, also called Llano, was originally called "Buffalo Hump," after a nearby hill.

In its early history, Llano County was primarily inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Tonkawa, Lipan Apache, and Comanche. The first Euro-American settlers arrived in the area in the 1840s, mainly attracted by the land grants offered by the Republic of Texas. At that time, land in Texas was either granted outright or sold at very low prices, resulting in a considerable influx of European settlers, including those from Germany, England, and other countries.

Throughout the latter half of the 19th century, Llano County experienced rapid growth in population and industry, largely due to the discovery of iron deposits in the area. In the early 20th century, granite mining also emerged as a significant industry, which further contributed to the county's development.

Agriculture, particularly ranching, has been a vital part of the regional economy since its founding. Cattle, sheep, and goat ranching make up the majority of farming in the area. Tourism and recreational activities also play a role in the local economy, with many visitors drawn to the natural beauty of the region.

Fun fact: Llano County is home to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, which features a massive pink granite dome called Enchanted Rock, a popular destination for hiking and rock climbing. This geological wonder is estimated to be over one billion years old and holds significant spiritual significance for the Native American tribes who once inhabited the area.
