Moore County is located in the Texas Panhandle region in the northernmost part of the state. The county was created on August 21, 1876, but was not organized until March 20, 1892. It was named in honor of Edwin Moore, a Texas Revolutionary soldier, and is part of the larger series of 26 Texas counties named for individuals who fought for the Republic of Texas during the Texas Revolution.

The area witnessed development in the early 20th century with the arrival of the Santa Fe Railroad in 1901. This spurred the establishment of Dumas, the county seat, which was founded in 1891 by Louis Dumas, a business promoter. Today, Dumas serves as the vibrant hub of the county's commerce, industry, and social life.

One of the main economic drivers for Moore County throughout the years has been agriculture. The region's fertile land has been utilized for growing crops such as wheat, corn, and sorghum, as well as for raising livestock. The 20th century also saw the expansion of the petroleum and natural gas industries in the county, contributing to its economic growth.

A fun fact: The Moore County Airport, located in Dumas, hosts the annual "Airshow and Fly-In" event. This exciting event showcases aerobatic performances, static aircraft displays, and offers airplane rides to attendees, making it a popular attraction for aviation enthusiasts in the Texas Panhandle region.
