Palo Pinto County, located in the great state of Texas, was officially established on August 27, 1856, from Bosque and Navarro counties. It is situated in the north-central part of the state, named after the Palo Pinto Creek which was named by early Spanish explorers. Covering an area of approximately 986 square-miles, the county's original economy revolved around ranching, agriculture, and trade, with the Brazos River playing a key role in transportation and provision of resources.

In 1857, the county's first permanent settlement, Golconda, was established, followed by the town of Palo Pinto, which later became the county seat. Mineral Wells, another significant city, was founded in 1881 after a variety of mineral waters with reputed health benefits were discovered. This led to a boom in health tourism and the creation of many hotels and bathhouses, earning Mineral Wells the nickname of "The South's Greatest Health Resort."

The construction of the Weatherford, Mineral Wells and Northwestern Railway in 1891 further bolstered local economic growth in various sectors such as the oil, gas, and gypsum industries. The population of the county experienced a steady increase throughout the early 20th century, reaching a peak in the 1930s before declining post-World War II.

A fun fact about Palo Pinto County, Texas is that it's home to the famous Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells, a luxurious spa resort which opened in 1929. With 14 stories and 450 guest rooms, the hotel has been visited by numerous celebrities and politicians, such as movie stars like Judy Garland, Clark Gable, and even the future President Lyndon B. Johnson. Although it closed in 1972, there are plans to restore and reopen this historic gem as a restored spa resort.
