San Jacinto County, located in the great state of Texas, was established on August 13, 1870, and named in honor of the historical Battle of San Jacinto. This battle, which occurred on April 21, 1836, was a key point in Texas' fight for independence, resulting in the decisive defeat of the Mexican army and the establishment of the Republic of Texas. The county itself is situated in southeastern Texas, with the county seat being Coldspring.

Before the establishment of San Jacinto County, the area was inhabited by diverse Native American tribes, such as the Bidai, Akokisa, and Orcoquiza. The first European settlers arrived in the early 19th century, mainly Anglo-American pioneers and land grantees from Stephen F. Austin's colonies.

The region's economy primarily revolved around agriculture, forestry, and livestock in its early years, with several sawmills and gristmills processing timber and producing paper from local resources. In the 20th century, the construction of the Lake Livingston reservoir, which was completed in 1969, enabled diversification into other sectors such as recreation, tourism, and hydroelectric power generation.

A fun fact about San Jacinto County is that it is home to the Double Lake Recreation Area. This popular destination offers a wealth of outdoor activities, including camping, hiking, fishing, and swimming, in a picturesque, heavily forested environment surrounding Double Lake.
