Scurry County, located in the great state of Texas, was established on August 21, 1876, and officially organized on March 28, 1884. It was named in honor of William Read Scurry, a prominent lawyer and Confederate general during the American Civil War. The county is situated in the western part of Texas and spans an area of about 908 square miles.

Snyder, the county seat, was founded in 1882 as a trading center for buffalo hunters and ranchers in the area. The city began to thrive with the discovery of oil in the 1940s, transforming the region's economy dramatically. Alongside oil production, Scurry County also boasts a diverse economy with agriculture, comprising of cotton, wheat, and cattle, playing a significant role in its growth.
