Victoria County is located in the southeastern region of the great state of Texas. The county was founded in 1836, when Texas was still part of Mexico. The county's name was derived from Guadalupe Victoria, the first president of the Republic of Mexico. The coastal plains of Victoria County originally were inhabited by the Karankawa and Tonkawa tribes. The area later became home to Spanish and Mexican settlers, as well as many European immigrants, primarily from Germany and Ireland. In 1824, Martin De Leon, a Mexican empresario, founded the city of Victoria, which also serves as the county seat.

Throughout its history, Victoria County has been influenced by a range of industries including cattle ranching, agriculture, trade, and the development of the Texas railroad system. The county played a significant role during the Civil War, as goods and supplies were transported between Matamoros, Mexico, and other parts of the Confederacy.

A fun fact about Victoria County is that the Guadalupe River, which flows through the county, serves as an excellent location for outdoor activities such as canoeing, fishing, and kayaking, attracting both residents and tourists each year. In addition, Victoria County is home to Riverside Park, a large 565-acre urban park that features a variety of recreational amenities such as sports facilities, playgrounds, picnic areas, and walking trails.
