Kane County, located in the southwest corner of Utah, was officially founded on January 16, 1864. It was named after Col. Thomas L. Kane, a Union officer during the American Civil War and a friend of the Mormon pioneers. Kane worked as a mediator between the Mormons and the US government in the Utah War of 1857-1858, helping to prevent major bloodshed.

The region that is now Kane County was once settled by the Ancestral Puebloans, a Native American civilization. Later, during the 12th century, the area was inhabited by the Fremont people, and then in the 13th century, the Paiute tribe.

In the early 19th century, European explorers visited the area, most notably, John C. Fremont and Kit Carson. Mormon pioneers arrived in the Kane County region in the mid-19th century, where they established the town of Kanab in 1870, which became the county seat. Ranching, agriculture, and mining became the primary industries, and the remote location led to the establishment of various film productions in the 1920s and 1930s, particularly in Kanab, which became known as "Little Hollywood."

Kane County is home to several stunning natural features, such as the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, which boasts over 3,700 acres of beautiful pink sand dunes. These dunes are a unique geological feature formed from the erosion of pink-colored Navajo Sandstone, making it a sand playground that you won't find anywhere else.

Fun Fact: Kane County is famous for being the filming location for numerous classic Western films and TV shows during the mid-20th century. Over 100 films and TV episodes were shot in and around Kanab, earning it the nickname "Little Hollywood."
