Morgan County is a picturesque region located in the northeastern part of Utah, United States. The county was created on January 17, 1862, by the Utah Territorial Legislature and was named in honor of Jedediah Morgan Grant, a leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and father of Heber J. Grant, the seventh president of the church. Morgan County lies in the northern part of the Wasatch Range, a region known for its breathtaking landscapes and outdoor recreational activities.

The first settlers of European descent in Morgan County were trappers and fur traders such as Thomas "Broken Hand" Fitzpatrick and Jim Bridger, who frequented the area in the 1820s and 1830s. Permanent settlement began after the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints arrived in the 1850s. Ranching, farming, and logging were the primary economic activities in the area. With the passage of time, more settlers arrived in the region and established several towns such as Morgan, Milton, Richville, and Stoddard.

Weber Canyon, situated in the county, was chosen by both the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads as the route for the first transcontinental railroad in the late 1860s.
