Utah County, located in the central part of the state of Utah, has a rich historical background. The area has long been inhabited by the ancient Fremont and Anasazi peoples and later by the Ute, Shoshone, and Paiute tribes. In 1776, Spanish explorers led by Francisco Atanasio Dominguez and Silvestre Velez de Escalante became the first Europeans to journey through present-day Utah County.

The first permanent non-indigenous settlers arrived in the 1840s when Mormon pioneers, led by Brigham Young, entered the region in search of a new home for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon arriving in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, the pioneers began spreading southward, establishing settlements throughout Utah County. Provo, now the county seat, was settled in 1849.

In the years that followed, Utah County became an increasingly important region for agriculture, industry, and transportation. The arrival of the transcontinental railroad, the establishment of the steel industry, and the growth of Brigham Young University, which was founded in 1875, all greatly influenced the development of the county.

Today, Utah County is the state's second-most populous county, with a diverse economy that includes education, technology, and manufacturing.

Fun fact: Utah County is home to the Timpanogos Cave National Monument, a beautiful cave system with intricate formations located in American Fork Canyon. To reach the caves, visitors have to hike 1.5 miles up a steep trail that ascends 1,092 feet in elevation, offering stunning views of the surrounding wilderness.
