Bath County is a picturesque rural region located in the great state of Virginia. Established on December 14, 1790, it was named in honor of the English city of Bath, which was famous for its thermal springs. Bath County is nestled in the Allegheny Mountains, and its abundant natural resources have shaped its history and modern times.

Prior to European settlement, the area was inhabited by Native American tribes like the Shawnee and the Cherokee. European settlers, mainly of Scottish, Irish, and German descent, began to move into the region in the 18th century. Some of the earliest settlers were drawn to the area's healing mineral springs, which have remained central to Bath County's identity.

The tourism industry began to grow around these mineral springs in the 18th and 19th centuries, and Warm Springs and Hot Springs became popular destinations. The Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, opened in 1766, remains one of the oldest continually operating resorts in the United States. Bath County also witnessed the construction of several thriving mills and tanneries in the 19th century, which boosted the local economy.

Bath County remains an idyllic destination for tourists seeking natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and relaxation in its famous hot springs. One fun fact about Bath County is that it is the least populous county in Virginia, with a population of just over 4,000 residents. This low population density contributes to its serene, rural charm and makes it a popular retreat for visitors seeking a peaceful getaway.
