Bland County is situated in the southwestern portion of the great state of Virginia, in the United States. The county was established on March 30, 1861, and was named in honor of Richard Bland, a Virginia statesman who played a prominent role in the early development of the region. The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Cherokee and Shawnee.

Bland County is known for its picturesque landscape, boasting stunning mountain ranges and lush forests. It covers approximately 359 square miles, which are mostly occupied by the Jefferson National Forest.

The economy of Bland County historically relied on agriculture, with the fertile soil proving suitable for various types of crops and livestock.
