Caroline County, located in the great state of Virginia, was established in 1728. It was formed from Essex, King and Queen, and King William Counties and named in honor of Caroline of Ansbach, the wife of King George II of Great Britain. The county covers 537 square miles of land and is home to a population of approximately 30,000 people (as per the 2020 Census).

The history of Caroline County is closely tied to its agricultural roots, with tobacco farming playing a significant role. The master filmmaker Terrence Malick drew inspiration from Caroline County landscapes for his movie "The New World" released in 2005.

The county also played an essential role during the American Revolutionary War, with the town of Bowling Green serving as a key supply center for the Continental Army. Several engagements took place within its borders, including the Battle of Rappahannock River, which occurred on August 3, 1777.

Caroline County is no stranger to the Civil War either, with several conflicts happening in the area, such as the Battle of North Anna and the Battle of Milford Station. Besides, the prominent Confederate General Stonewall Jackson received significant portions of his education in Caroline County.

One interesting fun fact about Caroline County is its close association with famous American racehorse Secretariat. The Triple Crown winner was born in 1970 at the Meadow Stable, situated in a hamlet called Doswell. The farm is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is an inspiration for horse racing enthusiasts visiting the area.
