Charlotte County is situated in the southern part of the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA. This county was established on March 5, 1765, and was named in honor of Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III of Great Britain. The county seat is Charlotte Court House.

Charlotte County has a rich historical background with significant events occurring during both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. During the Revolutionary War, the "Cornwallis Campaign" took place in the region, as the British General Charles Cornwallis attempted to gather resources and support to quash the American rebellion.

During the Civil War, the famous Confederate General Robert E. Lee retreated through Charlotte County in 1865, just before his ultimate surrender to the Union Army at Appomattox Court House.

Charlotte County is home to several historical landmarks and notable figures. Patrick Henry, an American Founding Father and a prominent figure in American history, lived in Charlotte County during the late 18th century. His famous speech, "Give me liberty or give me death!" still resonates throughout American history, and his Red Hill plantation in Charlotte County is a registered National Historic Landmark.

A fun fact about Charlotte County is that it contains Virginia's only bridge with a bicycle, the Roanoke River Bridge. This unique bridge was built in 2010, allowing both pedestrians and cyclists to cross the river while enjoying the scenic views. The bridge is a part of the Tobacco Heritage Trail, a multi-use recreational trail system in southern Virginia.
