Falls Church County, more commonly known as Falls Church City, is an independent city located in the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA. The history of Falls Church can be traced back to the late 17th century when it was part of the English Colony of Virginia. It is considered one of the oldest European settlements in the region.

The area was settled by English immigrants of the Church of England who established a site for a new church in 1734. This church, called William Gunnell's Church, was the origin of the city's name. In 1757, a larger church called the Falls Church was constructed, taking its name from the nearby Little Falls along the Potomac River. The city grew around this new church, eventually being named after it.

Falls Church played a significant role during the American Revolution when George Washington and George Mason were active in the area. George Mason's Virginia Declaration of Rights, a key influence on the U.S. Constitution's Bill of Rights, was discussed and developed in Falls Church.

The city was a prominent location during the Civil War as well. Due to its proximity to Washington D.C., it served as a Union stronghold and base for operations in Northern Virginia. In 1875, Falls Church was officially incorporated as a town and later became an independent city in 1948, thus separating it from Fairfax County.

Falls Church City is known for its exceptional school system, its strong sense of community, and its close proximity to Washington, D.C. One fun fact about this region is that the historic Cherry Hill Farmhouse and nearby Barn, built in the mid-19th century, still stand today as a representation of early 19th-century Virginia farm life. The farmhouse offers guided tours and various educational programs, giving visitors a glimpse into the region's rich history.
