Fluvanna County is located in the Piedmont region of Virginia, nestled in the heart of the Commonwealth. The history of Fluvanna County dates back to the early 18th century when it was part of Albemarle County. Fluvanna was officially established as an independent county in 1777, as the demand for land and the need for local government grew. The county's name is derived from the Latin words "fluvius" and "anna," meaning River of Anne, in honor of England's Queen Anne. The origins of the name also pay tribute to the Fluvanna River, which is now more commonly known as the Rivanna River.

The fertile lands of Fluvanna have played an important role in Virginia's agricultural history, with tobacco and wheat as primary crops. Additionally, Fluvanna County was the site of many Revolutionary War and Civil War skirmishes, particularly because it was home to the Point of Fork Arsenal, which was raided by British forces led by Banastre Tarleton in 1781 during the Revolutionary War.

A fun fact about this region is that the Fluvanna County Courthouse, built in 1830, is renowned for its unique architectural design - a blend of Classical Revival and Federalist styles. This courthouse is considered one of the finest examples of antebellum architecture in Virginia.
