Greensville County, situated in the great state of Virginia, was established on October 16, 1781. This county is named in honor of Sir Richard Grenville, an English explorer who first navigated the Roanoke River in Virginia. Located in the southeastern part of the state, it shares borders with Brunswick and Sussex Counties, as well as North Carolina. The county covers a total area of 297 square miles, with its county seat being Emporia.

The county's history is intertwined with tobacco farming, with several plantations scattered throughout its landscape. Initially inhabited by Native American tribes, it later became home to European settlers, who found the area's fertile soil suitable for cultivating the cash crop.

During the Civil War, Greensville County played a significant role as a transportation hub, with the Petersburg Railroad running through its territory. Additionally, the county was part of the Blackwater Line, a series of Confederate fortifications designed to protect the eastern approach to Richmond, the Confederate capital.

A fun fact about Greensville County is that it is home to the Meherrin River, which is one of the few rivers in Virginia that flows directly into the Albemarle Sound in North Carolina, bypassing state boundaries. This river serves as an essential natural resource for the region and provides various recreational opportunities for local residents and visitors alike.
