Henrico County is located in the Commonwealth of Virginia, to the north and west of the state capital, Richmond. The county, which dates back to 1634, is one of the eight original Virginia shires that were created upon the founding of the Virginia Colony. Named after Henry Frederick, the Prince of Wales and son of King James I, Henrico County has a rich history that spans almost four centuries.

During the early 17th century, Henrico County was the site of several important events in colonial America. English settlers established the Citie of Henricus in 1611, which served as an important settlement and was the second successful English city in the New World, after Jamestown. The county played a significant role in the Revolutionary War, as several skirmishes occurred in the region, and it was also actively involved in the American Civil War.

Throughout its history, Henrico County has been an economic center, with agriculture being its primary industry during the colonial era. Over time, the county's economy has diversified, with modern aspects including retail, manufacturing, and technology industries.
