Prince George County is located in the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA. It was formed in 1703 from the then-Charles City County, which it bordered on the south upon the James River. The county was named in honor of Prince George of Denmark, husband of Queen Anne of Great Britain.

Prince George County holds historical significance due to its strategic location along the James River, which was a prominent route for the movement of goods and people in the early years of colonization. Consequently, the region witnessed various important events throughout American history, most notably during the Revolutionary War and the Civil War.

The county's early economy was centered on tobacco farming and related industries, which attracted British settlers, as well as African slaves who worked on the plantations. Over time, the economy diversified, with a focus on lumber, milling, and other industries, while agriculture remained central to the region's identity.

One fun fact about Prince George County is that it is home to the U.S. Army installation Fort Lee - nicknamed the "Home of Sustainment." Established during World War I, the base serves a crucial military purpose and provides significant economic support to the county.
