Richmond County is located in the great state of Virginia and was established in 1692. The county was named in honor of Charles Lennox, the first Duke of Richmond, who was a significant political figure in 17th-century England.

The county originally contained a vast territory, but it has been divided further over time to form several other counties, including King George County and Westmoreland County. The county seat is Warsaw, which was known as Richmond Courthouse until the name was changed in 1831.

Richmond County has a rich history, being home to several prominent families in the colonial era. One of the most notable is the Lee family, who produced several notable figures, such as General Robert E. Lee, the commander of the Confederate Army during the American Civil War.

Due to its historical significance, Richmond County has preserved a number of important landmarks. These include the Richmond County Courthouse, which features one of the earliest remaining arcaded brick facades in the United States. Another significant landmark is Sabine Hall, an 18th-century Georgian mansion built by the illustrious Landon Carter, a renowned agriculturalist and Virginia statesman.
