Caledonia County is located in the northeastern part of the great state of Vermont, United States, and was established on November 5, 1792. The county was formed out of parts of Orange, Essex, and Chittenden Counties. St. Johnsbury serves as the shire town, or county seat, of Caledonia County. The name "Caledonia" is derived from the Latin name of Scotland, which was used by the early settlers who came from the area known as "Scotch America" in Scotland.

As Vermont's third-largest county in terms of area, Caledonia County spans over 657 square miles and offers a delightful mix of rural landscapes, historical sites, and picturesque small towns. The region is surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers, including the Connecticut River, which forms the eastern boundary of the county.

One fun fact about Caledonia County is that it is home to the Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium, an iconic Victorian building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum was founded in 1889 by industrialist Franklin Fairbanks and features an extensive collection of natural history artifacts, cultural relics, and historical exhibits. The Lyman Spitzer Jr. Planetarium located within the museum is Vermont's only public planetarium, offering year-round astronomy education and stargazing opportunities for guests.
