The museum was founded in 1889 by industrialist Franklin Fairbanks and features an extensive collection of natural history artifacts, cultural relics, and historical exhibits. The Lyman Spitzer Jr. Planetarium located within the museum is Vermont's only public planetarium, offering year-round astronomy education and stargazing opportunities for guests.
