Orange County is situated in the eastern-central part of Vermont, a state in the northeastern United States. Established on February 2, 1781, the county was named after William of Orange, who was an influential figure in the Glorious Revolution of 1688 in England. Covering an area of 708 square miles, the county is composed of 23 towns and one unincorporated area.

The county seat, Chelsea, was founded in 1784 and serves as the shire town of the county. In the early days, agriculture was the primary occupation in Orange County, where inhabitants cultivated crops and raised livestock. As industry developed, several mills began to emerge, making use of the county's rivers for power. These mills were involved in activities such as manufacturing textiles, lumber, and flour.

Orange County is known for its picturesque natural areas and charming small towns. Some of its most popular outdoor destinations include the Mount Horrid Observation Site along Vermont Route 73 and the Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial in Sharon.

Fun Fact: Orange County is home to the mysterious floating island at Baker Pond, a natural phenomenon in which a sizeable chunk of land covered in trees and vegetation appears to be floating freely in the water. The island actually moves along with the changes in water currents and winds, presenting a captivating feature that has intrigued both tourists and locals.
