Adams County, located in the great state of Washington, is nestled within the Columbia Plateau region and has a rich historical background. It was officially established on November 28, 1883, and named after the second U.S. President, John Adams. The County is also home to the world-famous Grand Coulee Dam, which provides hydroelectric power and irrigation to a vast region.

The indigenous people of Adams County were from the Palus (also known as Palouse) tribes, who were skilled horse riders and traded with neighboring tribes. The first European explorers arrived in the area in the early 19th century, followed by fur traders and, later, settlers in search of fertile land for agriculture.

The arrival of railroads in the late 19th century ushered in an era of economic growth for Adams County. Agriculture, primarily focused on wheat and dry-land farming, remains the backbone of the local economy. Like many other agricultural settlements, irrigation played an essential role in developing the region, and the Columbia Basin Project significantly improved the quality of life for local farmers.

The county seat of Adams County is Ritzville, which was named after Philip Ritz, a pioneering wheat farmer of German descent who arrived in the area in 1878. Ritzville is known for its historic downtown area and the 1902-built Burroughs Block building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A fun fact about Adams County is that it hosts the annual *Wheat Land Communities' Fair* which celebrates the rich agricultural heritage of the region through exhibits, entertainment, and community gatherings.
