Clark County is located in the southwestern region of the great state of Washington, United States. It was created by the Washington Territory Legislature in 1845, originally named Vancouver District. The county was renamed as Clark County in 1849 in honor of William Clark, an explorer and leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, which was the first overland expedition to explore the western portion of the land that would become the United States.

Prior to European settlement, the area was inhabited by native tribes, including the Chinook, Cowlitz, and Klickitat peoples. The Hudson's Bay Company established Fort Vancouver in 1825, which became the nucleus of future Euro-American settlements in the area. In 1846, the Oregon Treaty between the United States and the British Empire led to the establishment of the boundary between present-day British Columbia and Washington, effectively ending British rule in the area.

As the area developed, agriculture became the predominant industry, with the fertile soil and mild climate supporting the cultivation of crops such as wheat, barley, and fruit. Logging and lumber industries also played a significant role in the economic growth of Clark County.

A fun fact about Clark County is the existence of the Vancouver Trout Hatchery, located in Vancouver, Washington. Established in 1938, it is one of the oldest hatcheries in the state and has been using natural methods to rear trout for stocking in the region's waters ever since. The hatchery promotes recreational fishing opportunities and is a popular destination for locals and tourists.
