Cowlitz County is a county located in the southwestern part of the state of Washington, USA. It was established in 1854 and was named after the Cowlitz River, which flows through the county. The county's history is tied to the timber and logging industries, which were the dominant economic forces in the area for many years.

The area that is now Cowlitz County was originally inhabited by the Cowlitz people, a Native American tribe. In the mid-19th century, European-American settlers began to arrive in the area, and the county was established as part of the Oregon Territory.

One fun fact about Cowlitz County is that it is next to Lewis County which is home to the "world's largest egg". The giant egg, which measures 12 feet tall and 8 feet in diameter, was built in the early 20th century by a local egg farmer named "Chicken Bill" Helming. The egg was used as a roadside attraction to promote Helming's egg business, and it became a popular landmark in the area. Today, the egg is located in the town of Winlock and is a quirky and beloved symbol of Cowlitz County's agricultural heritage.
