Snohomish County is located in the western part of the state of Washington and is part of the Puget Sound region. The county was established on January 14, 1861, and has a rich historical background influenced by Native American, European, and American settlers.

Before the arrival of European explorers, Snohomish County was inhabited by Native American tribes, mainly the Snohomish, Skykomish, and Stillaguamish. These tribes lived along the rivers and shores, relying on fishing, hunting, and gathering for survival. The county name itself is derived from the Snohomish tribe.

European explorers first arrived in the area in the late 18th century, with George Vancouver being one of the first to explore the Puget Sound region. American settlement began in the early 19th century, as the Hudson's Bay Company established trading posts in the region. The Oregon Treaty of 1846 settled the dispute between the United States and Great Britain over the region, establishing present-day boundaries.

During the latter half of the 19th century, the logging industry became a significant economic driver in Snohomish County, with timber mills popping up along major rivers. The arrival of the Great Northern Railway in the 1890s further boosted the economy, providing efficient transportation for goods and people. Throughout the 20th century, Snohomish County experienced significant growth, both in population and economic development.

Today, Snohomish County is a diverse and thriving region, with the aerospace industry-led by the Boeing Company-being a major employer.

Fun fact: Snohomish County is home to the largest building in the world by volume, the Boeing Everett Factory. This massive facility, where Boeing's 747, 767, 777, and 787 aircraft are assembled, covers over 98 acres and has a total interior space of 472 million cubic feet.
